SCRIMSHAW, mid-19th century, engraved with an image of the ship 'Vernon' under full sail, engraved beneath - Vernon Frigate, (160mm long). Very fine with attractive old patina.

HMS Vernon was a 50-gun fourth rate launched in 1832. The `Vernon' was built at Woolwich Dockyard and measured 176 feet in length by 44 feet in the beam and a tonnage of 1511. She was the first large ship designed by William Symonds in 1831.
