PAIR: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 3 reverse), - 8 clasps - Belmont, Modder River, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen; King's South Africa Medal 1902, - two clasps - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902. Sjt: I.H.Davis. Damant's Horse. on first medal, 543 Tpr I.H.Davis. Pietersburg L.H. on second medal. Both medals impressed. Display mounted in storage case, hairlines, otherwise good very fine.

Information from the book titled The Bushveldt Carbineers and the Pietersburg Light Horse by William (Bill) Woolmore, pp177-8, 'Davis Isaac Henry, Trooper No.543 (PLH): English. 19 months previous service as sergeant n/n in Rimington's Guides. He was engaged in all the major actions from Belmont and Modder River to the relief of the Kimberley siege; the battles of Paardeberg, Driefontein, and the occupation of Bloemfontein. He was involved in the action before Johannesburg, the occupation of Pretoria and the battles at Diamond Hill, and Wittebergen. After a brief period of 1 1/2 months in the Field Intelligence Department he then enlisted in the PLH at Green Point on 17 Feb 1902 as a trooper (a strange drop in rank for such an experienced soldier). - age 32, miner, single, Church of England, height 5'7", 154 lbs, 37" chest, scar on left eye, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair. NOK: sister, Bromley Kent, England. Discharged from PLH on 7 July 1902. He qualified for the QSA medal with clasps Belmont, Modder River, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill & Wittebergen and his KSA medal with the two date clasps was issued from the PLH roll.'
Isaac Henry Davis saw service with several units including, Damant's Horse formerly Rimington's Guides, Field Intelligence Department, and Bushveldt Carbineers later Pietersburg Light Horse.
