PAIR: King's Police Medal for Gallantry, 1st type (GVR coinage head); Visit to Ireland Medal 1903 (EVIIR). Wm.J.Burke Const.Royal Irish Constab on first medal, W.J.Burke R.I.C. on second. Both medals engraved. Very fine.

LG: 3/1/1911 'On the 8th June 1909, Constable Burke found a bomb with burning fuse, which had been placed on the windowsill of an occupied house in Dublin. He picked it up and threw it onto the road, however it rolled near to another house. He again picked it up and placed it in the middle of the road. As he was pouring water over it, the bomb exploded and severely wounded Constable Burke.'
