AUSTRALIA, presentation Lavinia Swiss wristwatch, 1940s, silvered case, flat silvered dial with black Arabic numerals, with seconds dial also with black Arabic numerals, with leather band, reverse inscribed, 'Presented To/R.A.Uebel/R.A.A.F/By His Friends At/S.T.Leigh & Co./27-9-40'. Appears to be working, some discolouration to dial, otherwise fine.

Together with photos of Roy Ambler Uebel and his wife and another photo of a younger Mrs Uebler, also six b&w unused postcards featuring scenes from the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney and an envelope for Limbless Soldiers Association NSW (Inc) at the Anzac Memorial, all these about 1940s.

A210601 Sergeant Roy Ambler Uebel, engine fitter, born 1905 and lived at Kurrajong, NSW; served in 55Bn in 1920s doing militia training; served in RAAF 1940-1955.

Prior to enlisting for WWII Roy Uebel worked for S.T.Leigh & Co, manufacturer of cigarette packets and cartons. Post WWII, as well as being in the RAAF, he was Honorary Secretary of the Liberal Party, Windsor Branch in NSW and Publicity Officer for the Hawksbury Valley Water Conservation Committee. In 1948 he also competed as a comedian in the Hawksbury District Eisteddfod and won the Comic Section for his routine 'The Escaper'.
