ANCIENT BRITISH, North Eastern Region, Inscribed coins, Corieltavi, Volisios Dumnocoveros type, (c.30-45 A.D.), gold stater, (4.98 g), obv. [V]OLI [S[IOS in two lines, crossed by vertical wreath of brick-like leaves facing inwards, beaded ringed-pellet in angle, rev. lunate horse to left, pellet triad under open head, DVMNOCOVEROS around, (S.416, ABC 1980, Van A 978, NE 8-9, BMC 3330-36, M 463, CCI 07.0404 [this coin]). Attractive rose gold, well defined horse, good display of regal names, extremely fine and rare in this condition.

Volisios was the father of Dumnocoveros, Cartivellaunos, Dubnovellaunos and Daninveliros.
This superb coin was found near Lund, North Yorkshire, north of the Humber and west of the Derwent.
