HMY ROYAL CAROLINE MODEL, by V.T.Priest, 1991, (95cm long x 80cm high), full timber construction, with intricate detail including canvas sails, rigging and metal fittings of canon and lamps. Slight damage, otherwise very fine and scarce.
HMY Royal Caroline was ordered in 1749 to replace HMY Carolina as Britain's principal royal yacht. She was launched on 29 January 1750 and was broken up 70 years later, in 1820.
Royal Caroline was one of the most sumptuously decorated vessels of all time. She was sailed for pleasure cruises by the royal family, and as a transport for members of court sailing between England and Holland. She was usually escorted by as many as four frigates and, when the King was aboard, accompanied by the First Lord of the Admiralty.
