QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - three clasps - Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902. 1399 Tpr: W.C.Willard. Steinaecker's Horse. The third and fourth bars connected to each other but not connected to first bar, nicely toned extremely fine.

Information from the book titled Steinaecker's Horsemen by William (Bill) Woolmore, p313, 'Willard, William Charles No.1399: Australian. Born Daylesford, Victoria, on 4 February 1879. His family operated one of the hotels in the town. Served previously for 6 months in the Borough Police. Attested in SH (Steinaecker's Horse) at PMB (Pietermaritzburg) on 3 June 1901 - miner, height 6'1", blue eyes, brown hair. NOK: father W.H.Willard at Bridport St, Daylesford, Victoria. Discharged time expired at PMB on 16 September 1902 after the cessation of hostilities. Qualified for the QSA medal with clasps Transvaal, SA 1901 & SA 1902.'
