QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - clasp - South Africa 1902. 1921 Pte P.Considine. Aust:Com:H. Impressed. Hairlines, otherwise nearly extremely fine.

Together with fob medal in silver in swivelling gilt frame (30x38mm), with suspension ring, obverse inscribed, 'Annual Regatta/1892/Senior Fours', reverse inscribed, 'Won By/Olsens Crew/M.Considine No.3'.
(Note: Michael Considine, the brother of Patrick Considine, was a member of the Central Queensland Rowing Club.)

Private Patrick Considine, 3rd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse.

Patrick Considine was born in County Clare, Ireland in 1876.His father, Michael, served in the Zulu War of 1879 and then he moved his family to Australia arriving at Cooktown in Queensland in 1884. Not long after Michael died and his wife then raised the children on her own. Patrick had one brother, Michael, and a sister, Margaret. After serving in the Boer War, Patrick was successful in drawing a selection of land in the Longreach area of Queensland. Later he sold it and purchased hotels in Longreach and Rockhampton. He never married and lived at the hotels with his sister. His brother, Michael, was an Alderman at Rockhampton and later moved to Sydney, NSW. Patrick died in a private hospital in Rockhampton in 1937 after a long and painful illness. His funeral service was held at St Vincent's Church, Wandall and he was buried at the Rockhampton Cemetery.
