W.H.Simpson. 7 F.C.E. A.I.F. on second medal, PX1 W.H.Simpson on last six medals. All medals impressed. Display mounted, some small spotty marks on ribbons, otherwise very fine - extremely fine and rare with PX1 serial number.

NG was the prefix for the New Guinea militia. PX was the prefix for Papua 2/AIF volunteers. PX was only used for non indigenous Papuan volunteers.

Note: Simpson claimed that he was nearly 28 when enlisting on 6 September 1915 but later, when enlisting for World War II, claimed he was born on 11 December 1900 which would have made him 14 years and nine months of age when he enlisted for World War I. It is more likely that he lowered his age when enlisting for World War II. It is also interesting that he altered his second name from Harry to Hooper but still with the birthplace of Orange, NSW.
