VINTAGE PAPERWEIGHT, a dome shape in solid clear glass (68x28mm), with the underside of the base impressed with details and these painted, the details read, 'INSURE WITH/THE/North/Queensland/INSURANCE CO Ld./FIRE . MARINE/Low Rates'. Handling marks on the top and bottom and some loss of paint, otherwise fine and historic.

The North Queensland Insurance Company Limited was established in 1886 by young Scotsmen and shipping business owners, James Burns and Robert Philp. The business grew rapidly with agencies in various countries. Then in 1921 they established the Bankers' and Traders' Insurance Company. Both companies survived the Great Depression and the stock market crash of 1929. In 1959 each company purchased a stake in The Equitable Probate and General Insurance Company and then in 1973 these three companies engaged in one of the largest mergers in Australian corporate history to form the QBE Insurance Group with one of its divisions called QBE Australia.
