SICILY, Syracuse, Deinomenid Tyranny, (c.485-466 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.49 g), struck under Gelon, c.480-478 B.C., obv. quadriga driven to right by bearded male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **SUPAKOSION* around, head of Arethusa to right, hair slightly waved and turned up behind under diadem of beads, four dolphins around, (cf.S.913, Boehringer series VIb, 80 [V37/R52], SNG ANS 20, SNG Copenhagen 204 (same dies). Silver and blue toning, well centred early die, very fine and rare.

Ex CNG Auction 76, lot 145 with ticket. Previously from Collection C.G. Ex Classical Numismatic Group 50 (23 June 1999), lot 485.
