PELOPONNESOS, Elis, Olympia, 87th-90th Olympiad, (struck c.432-420 B.C., silver stater, (11.52 g), obv. eagle standing right with its wings spread, grasping a serpent in its beak, **D A* across lower field, countermark above, rev. **F A* across field, winged thunderbolt with volutes within circular incuse, (S.-, Seltman 137 [dies BN/**yn*], cf.BCD Olympia 58-54, HGC 5, 341, SNG Copenhagen 365 (same dies), Pozzi 1831 (same dies). Attractive old toning, struck on an irregular flan, very rare.
