PHRYGIA, Sebaste, (3rd century A.D.), AE 27, (8.07 g), obv. youthful draped bust to right of the Roman Senate, around IEPA C VNK**L*HTO/C, dotted border, rev. Zeus enthroned to left, holding patera and sceptre, (S.5114, BMC 12 [p.371], SNG Cop. 675). Dark green patination about extremely fine and rare.

Ex Cornelius C. Vermeule Collection, from the CNG Triton III Auction, 30 November 1999 (lot 1668 part), previously from Baldwin's London who bought it from the R.C. Lockett Collection, Part XII, Glendining's 23 February 1961, (lot 2922 part) with tickets including a note that the coin comes from the Pierre Strauss Collection (M&M December 1950).
