SASANIAN KING, Kavad (Kawad, Kavadh) I, (A.D. 499-531, second reign), silver drachm, (4.07 g), mint of AI (Shush), obv. text in Pahlavi, crowned and cuirassed bust right, wearing mural crown and frontal crescent, two ribbons and korymbos, stars flankning head, three stars in crescent around, rev. "Fire of Shahpur" in Pahlavi (crude), fire altar with ribbons, flanked by crude representations of attendants, two outer rings around, (Sellwood 52, SNS Type Ic/1a, Karlsson D54, Gobl type III/1, illustration 189, Sunrise -). Lightly toned, very fine/nearly extremely fine, scarce.
