HADRIAN, (A.D. 117-138), silver denarius, issued 136, Rome mint, (3.12 g), obv. laureate head to right of Hadrian, around HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, rev. AFRICA around, Africa reclining to left, wearing elephant-skin head-dress, leaning on a rest, holding scorpion and cornucopiae, a basket of fruit or corn-ears in front of her, (cf.S.3459, RIC II.3: 1494, RSC 138, RSC 138, BMC 816). Toned, with golden highlights, extremely fine and rare in this condition.
