ANTONINUS PIUS, (A.D. 138-161), AE as, (11.24 g), Rome mint, issued A.D. 154-155, obv. laureate head of Antoninus Pius to right, around ANTONINVS AVG PI VS P P TR P XVIII, rev. Britannia seated to left on rock, to left shield and sceptre, around BRITTANIA COS IIII, in exergue S C, (S.4266, RIC 934, C.118). Dark green earthen patina, with rough edges, otherwise very fine and rare.

There was further unrest in the mid 150's, the beginning of an unsettled period in the island province which saw the abandonment of the Antonine Wall between Forth and Clyde and the recommissioning of the more southerly Hadrian' Wall.
