GROUP OF FOUR: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19 with MID; Belgian Croix de Guerre. 2791 Dvr. W.Lawrence. 5/F.Amb. A.I.F. on first medal, 2791 L/Cpl W.Lawrence. 5 F Amb. A.I.F. on second and third medals, last medal unnamed as issued. All named medals impressed. Some contact marks, otherwise toned fine - very fine.

Together with 5 Aust Fd Amb enamel colour patch pendant; WWI Returned from Active Service badge (AIF); NSW Government Railway Life Member badge in gold, 1942, named to W.Lawrence (secured to display board but probably 9ct and about 10.0g); WWI embroidered postcards sent by William Lawrence to his wife; two other postcards and a handwritten letter from an officer congratulating him on the award of the Belgian Croix de Guerre; group photo of 5 Field Ambulance; original Certificate of Discharge.

No recommendation available but in a letter of congratulations written to William Lawrence by his Transport Officer it states in part, '... Please accept my most hearty congratulations on this well-earned award. It is some return for the consistently good work and interest you have always displayed. I always held you up as an example of what is, in my humble opinion, the desired standard of excellence in a driver, both as regards his own personal appearance and the turnout of his horses and harness. No one appreciates more than my self how much personal effort is entailed in maintaining that standard ...'
