GROUP OF FOUR: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; Citizens of Lidcombe Tribute Medal. Captain. C.B.Pym. A.M.C. A.I.F. on first medal, Major. C.B.Pym. A.I.F. on second and third medals, Mj. C.R. (sic) Pym on last medal. The first three medals impressed, the last medal engraved on the reverse 'A Tribute From/the citizens of/Lidcombe/On His Return From/Active Service/1917' and engraved on the edge but with the wrong second initial R which should be B. The last medal with pin-back suspension, toned very fine - extremely fine.

Dr Pym and his wife were residents of 'Kinvara', Cook Street, Lidcombe, NSW. However, on the embarkation roll 25 June 1915 his address is recorded as Parramatta North, NSW and his wife's address is shown as Mrs R.E.M.Pym, Hospital for Insane, Parramatta, NSW.

Dr Charles Pym was the son of Major-General Frederick George Pym CB, ADC, RMLI and his wife. When he enlisted he was senior assistant medical officer at the Hospital for Insane, Parramatta. After enlisting he left with his unit of medical officers from Adelaide on 25 June 1915. During his service, he was in charge of the safe return home of mentally affected soldiers from hospitals in France, Belgium, Holland, England, and South Africa. After his war service he managed a number of city and country practices in places such as Braidwood, Penrith, Parramatta, Marrickville, and Sydney. He was highly regarded as a specialist in phrenics, the branch of science that relates to the mind and also the thoracic region. He retired in 1926 and died on the 1 September 1948.

Major C.B.Pym's brother, Lt-Col John Beville Pym RMLI died on 27 December 1916 at age 50 and was buried at Enfield (Lavender Hill) Cemetery, United Kingdom.
