George Bernard Tandy, warehouseman, born 15Jan1906 at Perth, WAust; Enl.06Mar1941 at Paddington, Sydney, NSW and to General Details Depot, Canterbury; to 3 Reserve Motot Tpt Coy, AASC 08Mar1941; Emb.10Apr1941; Disemb.24Apr1941 at Singapore and to Camp at Malacca, Malaya; Emb.06Feb1942 from Singapore and arrived at Java 11Feb1942 for ops against Japanese; MIA 07Mar1942; reported as POW 15Sep1942; reported to be in Thailand 09Dec1943 and later in 1944 in Moulmein, Burma; POW survivors from torpedoed Japanese transport 'Rokyu Maru' state he is still alive; recovered by Allies, alive in Siam 19Aug1945; Emb.06Oct1945 from Singapore aboard 'Highland Brigade' for Sydney; sick with malaria at 101st Aust Gen Hosp, Sydney 29Nov1945; Disch.21Jan1946 as Driver, 2/3 Res MT.
