Donald McLarty, boilermaker, born 08Jul1874 at Greenock, Scotland; Enl.25Mar1897 in Royal Navy for period of 12 years rising in rank from Acting Engine Room Artificer 4th Cl to Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Cl; served in various postings then joined RAN 01Mar1913 on loan; served on HMAS Sydney 27Jun1913 to 19Jul1919; took part in operations in German New Guinea 11Sep1914 and then the Sydney-Emden action 09Nov1914; Paid Emden Prize Bounty; Returned to RN at London Depot 20Jul to 24Dec1919.
