Note: The first Australia Day was held on 30 July 1915 as a way to celebrate the Australian soldiers' achievements at Gallipoli and to raise funds for our soldiers. Thereafter it was celebrated on various dates and under various names until 1946 when the Commonwealth and State governments agreed that 26 January would be recognised as Australia Day.
