Claude Richardson Clark, motor mechanic, age 25, born at Penge, England; Enl.27Oct1916 at Black Boy Hill, WA, with previous service in Calcutta Cycle Corps; to AFC Camp, Laverton, Vic 19Feb1917; Emb.16Jun1917; 2AM to AFC Dtls 04Sep1917; TOS 68Sqn AFC 14Sep1917; to France 21Sep1917; new designation - 2Sqn AFC 18Jan1918; RTA 06May1919; Disch.09Jul1919.
Claude Richardson Clarke was the first person to drive a motor car from Calcutta to Peshawar in the North West Frontier with the British American Tobacco Company. He had previously lived in French territory and toured through France so he was fairly fluent in French and he also spoke Hindustani well. He died at Perth, Western Australia in 1950 at the age of 61.
