CYPRUS, Salamis, (c.525-500 B.C.), Euelthon (or successors). silver Stater, 17X19 mm, (11.07 g), obv. Ram recumbent left, rev. Blank. (S.3587 [?650], Asyut 787 [This Coin], Zapiti & Michaelidou 2, cf.Tziambazis 95). Nearly very fine and very rare.

Ex Asyut Hoard and Spink London, c.1986.
The Asyut hoard is the greatest documented Archaic Greek coin hoard ever found and is of extreme importance. The Asyut hoard of nearly 900 silver coins, is a best example of the hoards consisting of coins from many mints buried in different regions of the Persian Empire between 500 and 480 or 465 B.C. The history of the discovery and its scientific publication was published by V.C. Vecchi and Sons in London. Analysing the hoard's composition then indicates that the vast proportion of coins from Greek cities or Thracian tribes minted in Aegean Thracia with the metal from the "Pangean" silver mines are all collected and made their way to Egypt. The comparison with other hoards of similar composition suggests some connection with the Persian military expeditions in Greece during the this period.
