SYRIA, Kingdom of, Seleukos I Nikator, (312-281 B.C.), silver tetradrachm (17.17 g), Sardis Mint, struck c.282-281 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress, dotted border, rev. Zeus Nikephoros seated left, holding Nike and sceptre, in left field **EP* monogram on shield, **AS* under throne, to right **SELEUKOU*, below in exergue **BASILEWS*, dotted border, (cf.S.6830. SC 3.1, Newell WSM 1350, SNG Spaer 63 [same obverse die], Houghton 592, HGC 16a [Scarce]). Nearly extremely fine and very scarce.

Ex CNG private purchase January 2004 with ticket. A similar example in CNG Triton IX, 9 January 2006 realised $1400US.
