ISLAMIC DYNASTIES, Ayyubid, Al-Aziz Uthman (AH 589-595, AD 1193-1198), gold dinar, 19mm, (2.74 g), Alexandria mint, dated 59[2]AH (1195 AD), obv. "Uthman bin Yusuf" in two lines in the centre, titles in middle margin, Kalima and Qur'an IX, 33 in outer margin, rev. "al-Imam/Ahmad" in two lines across field, citing the Abbasid caliph "Abu l-?bbas al-Nasir li-din Allah, commander of the faithful", (Album 794, Balog 192b, BMC 294, Wilkes 899). Clipped, nearly extremely fine, rough surface, scarce.
