Pegasus flying to right with pointed wing, around, P VIPSAN IO A GRIPPA II V, COR below Pegasus. (cf.S.384, cf.BCD 403 [Lanz Sale 105], Amandry XVII 20, Obv. a2, Rev. Ij31 [p.185, This Coin, illustrated Pl.XXVII], SNG Cop. 222 [Pl.5], cf.SNG Leake 3702, cf.BMC 534 [p.65]). Very fine and rare.
Ex Triton VIII, Classical Numismatic Group Auction, New York, January 12, 2005 (lot 2004 part) and from the Collection of BCD who obtained it from Frank Kovacs in December 1980 for US$85 and it previously from the Professor Saul Weinberg Collection, with tickets and photographs.
Amandry book describes the various dies used. As close as possible this specimen is from the dies described above but one is noted being this illustrated example. Amandry notes a total of 114 specimens from this Magistrate for all dies in his work 'Le Monnayage Des Duovirs Corinthiens', Paris, 1988.
