MAURETANIA, Kingdom of, Juba II, (25 B.C. - 23 A.D.), silver denarius, dated year 42 = 17-18 A.D., (2.99 g), obv. head of Juba as a youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress, club over shoulder, REX JUBA before, dotted border, rev. bull standing to right on ground line wearing headdress of Isis above, in exergue RXXXXII, dotted border, (S.-, Spoerri-Butcher [SNR 94, 2015] group 41 [obv.24, rev.3], Mazard 226, MAA 172, SNG Cop.589). Near mint state, with delightful patination, with highlights of gold and blue, very rare.

Ex Glendining's London, July 10, 1985 (lot 80), previously from Spink, Numismatic Circular, June 1952 No.6613 (noted as FDC), and probably from the Banasa/El Ksar hoard of 1907 (ICGH 2307).
