IONIA, Phokaia, electrum sixth stater or hekte, (c.390-380 B.C.), (Bodenstedt indicates 388-372 B.C.), (2.51 g), obv. Io head to left, with horn from head, rev. incuse square quartered, (S.4532, Bodenstedt 96 [p.165-168, Pl.9, 48, reports 29 specimens known from only 11 obverse dies and 12 reverse dies, these dies possibly obv. k, rev. **c* listed], Hess-Leu [1958 sale] [lot 216 possibly the same dies], Babelon, 2,II, 2110, [Pl.158, 24 similar dies], Schlesinger 1935 Sale [no.1283 similar dies], BMC 57 (Pl.V, 10), McClean 8259, Boston MFA 1918). Good very fine, struck from a rusty obverse die, rare.

Ex Munzen & Medaillen, Deutschland, Auction 9, October 4-5, 2001 (lot 266 illustrated) and previously from Gerhard Hirsch Sale 175 September 23, 1992 (lot 213).
Type known for various similar types struck with only 11 obverse and 12 reverse dies. One specimen only noted by Bodenstedt from these dies.
