ANDRONICUS II PALAEOLOGUS, (1282-1328 A.D.), gold hyperpyron 26mm, (4.08 g), Constantinople mint, struck 1282-1295, obv. half-length figure of the Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls with six towers, C/NC flanking Virgin, rev. Andronicus kneeling right, being blessed by Christ standing facing; C/N to right, uncertain siglon NC possibly between emperor and Christ's feet, (S.2326, DOC 220 var. (sigla); PCPC 91, LPC p.34, 1). Very fine with typical weakness in areas.
