CLAUDIUS, (A.D. 41-54), AE as, Rome mint type, issued 41-42, (11.02 g), obv. bare head to left, around TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP, rev. Minerva to right, helmeted and draped, hurling javelin and holding shield, SC in field, (S.1861, RIC 100, BMC 149, C.84). Slightly off centred, with attractive deep brown-black patination with earthen highlights, good very fine and rare in this condition.
