GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 242-3 (22.02 g), obv. laureate draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. around P M TR P V COS II P P, SC in exergue, Apollo seated to left holding branch and resting left elbow on lyre, (S.8732, RIC 303a, Hunter 117, cf.C.262). On a very large flan of medallic size, with a dark green patina on highlights, extremely fine and a scarce reverse type.
