WWI MEDALLIONS, includes France, uniface medallion in silver (27mm), no maker, ring top suspension, obverse, Gallic rooster standing on a bent staff with top end piece featuring an Imperial German eagle and the words, 'Deutsches Reich', behind is an ocean battle scene and a rising sun with the date 1915; Great Britain, Battle of Jutland, 1916, medallion in silver (22mm) (Eimer 1951; BHM 4124), by Spink & Son, ring top suspension, obverse, 12-line inscription, reverse, crossed White Ensign and Union flag with plaque inscribed 31 May 1916 supported by a trident and around the outside, 'To The Glorious Memory Of Those Who Fell That Day'. Very fine. (2)

The second medallion was designed by Admiral Prince Louis of Battenberg with the sale profits going to naval orphanages. A large version of the medallion (45mm) was struck in gold, silver and bronze and a smaller version, the above medallion, was only struck in gold or silver and was sold with a loop mount for wearing on bracelets or watch chains.
