PONTUS, Kings of, Mithradates III, Becker forgery, original was c.220-196/5 B.C., silver tetradrachm, (13.66 g), obv. diademed head of Mithradates to right, rev. *BAISILEWU MIQRADAT[OU]* Zeus seated left, holding eagle in his outstretched right hand and sceptre in his left, in inner left field, star within a crescent above a monogram, (cf.S.7239, Hill, G.F. Becker the Counterfeiter No.72 [Plate V), cf.Recueil general p. 10, 2 and pl. I, 2; Mattingly, Studies Price, 2 and pl. 56, SNG BM Black Sea 1024 var.). A Becker copy of the original of light weight, the original being extremely rare and weighs 17 g.
