NEW GUINEA, early 20th century, Mai ancestor mask, Middle Sepik region, of woven wicker covered in hard clay and painted with ochre and white striping, deeply inset eyes, cowrie shell decoration to face, cassowary feathers to top, long grasses below, (90cm high), on custom stand. Very fine and rare.
