THE BANK OF ADELAIDE, one pound, issued at Adelaide, July 5, 1870, (date printed), No. 289992, hand signed by Manager D.W. Cooper and entered by C.H. Powell Acct., with imprint on lower left, 'Bradbury Wilkinson Co, Engravers & c. London' (Vort-Ronald, p.52-56 on bank, type 2a, cf. Fig.52). Folds and creases, a few crease holes, with heavy aging tone, otherwise nearly fine, very rare and one of the earliest known notes of this bank.

This issue of the Bank of Adelaide (1865-1980, merging to be absorbed with the ANZ in 1980), is of much interest, particularly as its notes tended to remain in South Australia, and consequently few of the one pound notes seem to have survived.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
