VATICAN CITY, Pope Pius IX, 1869, in bronze (74mm), by I. & F. Bianchi, obverse bust of Pope Pius IX left, reverse, Christ with disciples handing one kneeling before him the keys to the kingdom of heaven and in the exergue translated as, 'The Vatican Council Successfully Begun 6 December 1869'. Edge nicks and bumps, some oxidation marks, otherwise very fine.
