ORGANISING SERVICE TUC (TRADES UNION CONGRESS), 1834-1934, badge in oxidised bronze (28x30mm), by Frank Cobb & Co, with pin-back suspension bar, features a Dorset labourer, one of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, with shackled right wrist waiting to be placed aboard a convict ship for transportation to Australia. Rubbing on high points, otherwise extremely fine.

The Tolpuddle Martyrs were six agricultural labourers from the village of Tolpuddle in Dorset who, in 1834, were convicted of swearing a secret oath as members of the Friendly Society of Agricultural Labourers. They were arrested during a labour dispute and subsequently convicted to transportation to Australia. They became a popular cause for the union movement.
