1831 PROOF TWO SOVEREIGNS, William IV, 1830-37. S-3828, W&R 258 (R3) 15.68g. Reverse - Ensigns' armorial (shield bearing W IV royal arms#) within an ornately edged ermine mantle drawn at the top corners by tasselled cords and surmounted by a stylised St Edwards Crown. The shield's base reveals it sits on a mostly obscured ornate chain from which hangs sinester St George and the dragon between ANNO 1831 "year 1831". A denticular border and a narrow raised rim surround the coin, typically with part wire at the edge. All parts of the design in relief exhibit delicate frosting over mirrored fields. Both sides reveal slight ghosting in accord with being hand struck by the moneyers using multiple strikes with the dies to bring up the design. Hairlines in field and slight contact marks, minute rim nicks, otherwise nearly FDC and very rare.
