NERO, (54-68 A.D.), AE quadrans, Rome mint, issued AD 64-65, obv. NERO CLAV CAE AVG GER, owl standing facing, wings spread, on garlanded rectangular altar, rev. P M TR P IMP P P, upright olive branch, S C across fields, (S.1985, RIC 319, C.185, BMC 288). Delightful dark earthen patination, about as struck, extremely fine and very rare in this condition.

Ex Superior Stamp & Coin company, at the New York International Numismatic Convention Auction, December 3-4, 1999 (lot 1853 part), coming from the Knobloch Collection (stated in original catalogue) being Stacks, Greater New York Numismatic Convention Sale of the Frederick S. Knobloch Colllection of Roman Imperial Coins, May 1-3, 1980 (lot 238), where it realised US$125.
