ANTONINNUS PIUS, Divus Antoninus Pius, (died 161 A.D.), AE sestertius, 33 mm, (25.31 g), Consecration issue, Rome mint, struck under Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, in 161 A.D., obv. DIVVS ANTONINVS, bare head right, rev. around CONSECRATIO, S C in exergue, funeral pyre of four tiers decorated with garlands, surmounted by facing quadriga, (S.5109, cf.RIC III 1268 (Aurelius), BMC 879, C.167, MIR 18, 27 (Aurelius), Banti 73). A superb perfectly round sestertius, with a even brown patina, nearly extremely fine and scarce.
