GROUP OF SIX TO KIA: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Tobruk Siege 1941 Medal (casting). VX12704 P.R.Jacoby on first five medals, last medal unnamed. The named medals impressed. Display mounted, extremely fine.

Peter Renbury Jacoby, born 21Apr1917 at Perth, WA; Enl.22Apr1940 at Caulfield, Melbourne, Vic; DOW 30Oct1942 as Captain with 2/32 Aust Infy Bn.

Peter Renbury Jacoby was the son of Arthur Jacoby, the general manager of the Swan Brewery Company. He attended Hale School where he was the School Captain in 1935 and he was also outstanding at sports in athletics, swimming, rifle shooting and boxing. He was a lieutenant in the school cadets and he was also junior sailing champion at the Royal Perth Yacht Club and was a member of the Cottesloe Golf Club. He studied law at St George's College at the University of Western Australia after leaving school and also served as a lieutenant in the City of Perth Regiment.

He was in Victoria when war was declared and after enlisting at Caulfield he went overseas where he joined up with Western Australia's 2/32 Bn in England. The battalion then went to the North African Theatre of Operations where he was a company commander throughout the Siege of Tobruk. After evacuating from Tobruk the battalion was then preparing for battle with Rommel's Afrika Korps. Unfortunately, while on a reconnaissance patrol on 22 October 1942, the day prior to the Battle of El Alamein, Captain Jacoby was shot by a sniper. He was assisted by some of his men but was shot again while being carried to his battalion lines and died a short time later on 30 October at the age of 25. He is buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery in Egypt.
