PAIR TO DIED ON SERVICE: War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. N275453 M.K.Moore. Both medals impressed. Some surface marks on second medal, otherwise extremely fine - uncirculated.

Together with box of issue with leaflet showing medal entitlement and letter from Department of Army confirming awards to died on service N275453 Corporal M.K.Moore, 9 Infantry Training Battalion.

Max Kelvin Moore, born 12Dec1922 at Inverell, NSW; Enl.13Nov1941 at Woodburn, NSW in CMF (N275453); Died 03Aug1942 of pneumonia after complications set in while serving as Corporal with 9 Aust Training Bn; Buried at Dubbo General Cemetery, Dubbo, NSW.

The following obituary was published in The Inverell Times on Wednesday 19 August 1942 on page 3.

'THE LATE MAX KELVIN MOORE
The Dubbo "Liberal" of August states that Inverell's old school prefect, fine athlete, tennis player, cricketer and High School footballer was buried with military honours in the Church of England cemetery on Tuesday, August 4, 1942 in his twentieth year. Teachers and students who remember him as a Fifth Year student of barely 16 years can scarcely realise that Max one of our prefects is gone forever. Teachers and fellow-students recall Max, always arriving in time in all weathers after his daily 12 miles on his bicycle, in his gritty determination to secure his Leaving Certificate and become a school-teacher. His ambition was realised when he was appointed to take charge of the small school at New Italy where he remained until his call to military service. He became a Corporal Instructor very rapidly and his old school mates looked forward to a fine career for Max in our national tasks; but the Grim Reaper has taken him all too early leaving us a memory of one who "played the game" both in and out of school. Unselfish and courageous, no task ever dismayed Max and he leaves behind him, when we read his name on our "Honour Roll" not merely a name but an example of character and determination that must inspire every student of Inverell High School.'
