CONVICT LOVE TOKEN, a shaved down 1797 cartwheel penny, obverse stipple engraved, 'A Token/from/John Chapman/Aged 20/1832', reverse stipple engraved, 'When/this you see/remember me/untill (sic) I get my/liberty' and with two kissing doves with a small heart between them. Good very fine.

John Chapman was a waterman from Middlesex who was convicted in May 1832 of stealing a tea caddy. He was sentenced to 14 years transportation to the Colony of New South Wales. He was transported on the 'Retribution' leaving England on 30 May 1833 and arrived at New South Wales on 18 October 1833.
