VICTORY MEDAL 1914-19 TO WIA. 40 Pte. L.Carroll 40 Bn. A.I.F. Impressed. Display mounted, nearly extremely fine.

Entitled to Military Medal and British War Medal 1914-18.

MM: LG 21/1/1919; CAG 23/5/1919.

Recommendation: On the 12th August, 1918, South of Proyart, Private Carroll displayed great courage and devotion to duty in constantly repairing the lines of Signal communication between his company and Battalion under heavy artillery fire - By his determination communication was successfully maintained.

Leslie Carroll, plasterer, age 18, born at Hobart, Tas; Enl.15Nov1915 at Claremont, Tas, in 40 Bn, with previous service in Naval Reserves at Hobart, Tas; Emb.01Jul1916; to France ; WIA 07Jun1917 GSW hand, France; WIA 04Oct1917, GSW left thigh, France; WIA 12Aug1918, shrapnel wound side and hand, at Battle of Amiens, France and hand subsequently amputated; awarded Military Medal 15Sep1918; granted leave to undertake a Course of Instruction in Commerce of Textiles at School of Technology at Manchester 17Apr to 17Oct1919; married Lily Crofford at Stockport, Manchester, England 07Jun1919; RTA 15Nov1919; Disch.03Jul1920; Leslie Carroll and his wife had 8 children whilst teaching at schools around rural Victoria.
