PAIR: British War Medal 1914-18; Mercantile Marine War Medal 1914-18. Captain. G.Norrie. A.I.F. on first medal, G.Norrie Australia 2764. on second medal. Both medals impressed. Display mounted, many hairlines on first medal from cleaning, second medal lacquered, otherwise very fine.

British War Medal is sole AIF entitlement.

George Norrie, medical practitioner being the Medical Officer at Randwick Military Hospital, age 28, born at Grafton, NSW; Enl.15May1916 and commissioned as a Captain in AAMC on 20May1916 with previous militia service with Army Medical Corps; served with M.D. No.2 Section Sea Transport Service; Emb.20May1916 per Karoola from Sydney to Suez, arriving 26Jun1916; RTA 14Aug1916; Disch.13Apr1917 Medically Unfit due to influenza contracted 06Aug1916 while Senior Medical Officer on troopship and resulting in pneumonia; joined Mercantile Marine as a surgeon and served until end of the war; post war Dr Norrie was a dermatologist in Macquarie Street, Sydney, NSW.
