THESSALY, Thessalian League, (late 2nd - mid 1st century B.C.), silver stater or double victoriatus, (6.22 g), Pausanias and A(tre..?), Larissa mint, obv. head of Zeus to right, crowned with oak leaves, rev. Athena Itonia advancing to right, brandishing spear and holding shield, on sides **QESSA LWN*, above across **[PA]U-SANIAS*, to left of figure A, (cf.S.2232, BCD 858.5 [notes a Diodoros ethnic in exerque but also not present on his illustrated example], HGC 4, 209). Bright, good very fine, very rare variant.
