QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - three clasps - Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen. No 102. Tpr. W.A.Grave. W.Aus. I.B. Engraved. Toned good very fine.

Recorded in The Bushveldt Carbineers and the Pietersburg Light Horse by William (Bill) Woolmore on page 195.^^'Grave, William Arthur, Trooper No. 655 (PLH): Born Sydney, New South Wales. Previous service as Private No. 102 in the 4th West Australian Mounted Infantry which participated in the attempt to entrap de Wet in the Brandwater Basin and also played a significant role in General Plumer's force which advanced to and occupied Pietersburg in April 1901. He later served as No. 39706 in the 2nd Scottish Horse. Enlisted in the PLH at Durban on 8 May 1902 - age 25, miner, height 5'11", 40" chest, 6 7/8 head, size 8 foot, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair. NOK: Mrs Grave, Osborne Villa, Claremont, Western Australia. Discharged on 18 May 1902 (for 'misconduct' according to the 1901/02 roll) and papers marked 'Taken on for recruiting purposes only'. He qualified for the QSA medal with clasps Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen, SA 1901 & SA 1902.'^^With research.
