AETHELRED II, (978-1016), silver penny, long cross type, York Mint, moneyer Ulfketill, (1.46 g), obv. bare headed bust left to edge of flan, hair made of 16 strands, large pellet eye, pellet behind neck, five horizontal folds to drapery, no inner circle or sceptre, +AEDELRAED REX ANGLO (NG ligated) around, pellet either side of initial cross pattee, rev. voided long cross with pellet in centre and triple crescent ends dividing +VLF CETL M'OE OFR around, large pellet in first quarter, (S.1151, N.774, BMC iva). Toned, slight peck marks, nearly very fine and a rare moneyer for type.
