MYSIA, Astyra, under Persian Satrapy, Tissaphernes, (c.400-395 B.C.), AE 12, (1.504 grams), obv. portrait of Tissaphernes bare-headed to right, **TISS[A]* below, rev. cult image of Artemis, club to right, to left **[AST]URH*, (S.-, Cahn, Numismatics - Witness to History pp.11-14 and pl.3, Spink Num. Circ. April 1994 2006 [£950]). Nearly extremely fine/very fine and very rare.

A wonderful minature portrait of the great Persian General Tissaphernes, engraved by a Greek artist of highest skill, minted at Astyra in Mysia.
