ITALY, Calabria, Tarentum (Taras), (334-330 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (7.92 g), obv. naked horseman at full gallop on horse to right, holding lance, and two more lances and a round shield in his left hand, **SA* below, rev. Taras astride a dolphin to left, holding a kantharos in extended right hand, trident in his left arm, shrimp below, **TARAS* behind, (cf.S.347, HN Italy 937 variety (unlisted control) cf.Vl.622-624, cf.SNG ANS 1086). Golden highlights, toned, extremely fine and an unpublished symbol on the reverse.
